A little girl of just three years was standing all alone

one winter's night the snow was falling fast. Along the street there came a man and saw this little child and stopped to say a word eer he did pass....... I'm looking for my mother she left me long ago. They say she's up in heaven that's where I want to go. Won't you please tell me how to get there twill keep me from the cold and I'll be so glad to see her for she always loved me so. The stranger took the little child along with him that night........

My mother would sing this song to me when I was little. She must have known it from 1920(?) I heard it in the 1930's. Cannot remember the rest of the song and would like to find the words. I know the tune.

I know this song. My grandmother was born in 1925 and she sung this to my mom and aunts, as well as me. I heard it as:

"A little girl of just three years was standing all alone. One one winter’s night the snow was falling fast, along the street there came a man, and saw this little one who stopped to say a word or he had past "I’m looking for my mommy, she left me long ago, they say she’s up in heaven that’s where I want to go. Please show me how to get there and she’ll keep me from the cold. I’ll be so glad to see her, she always loved me so".
