All Aboard for Blanket Bay

by Cherry Burroughs
(Isle of Wight, UK)

'All aboard for Blanket Bay,
Won't come back till the Break of day'
Then more about a trundle bed, Bless Mummy, Bless Daddy and sail away etc.

I am 69, and have lovely memories of my Welsh mother, grandmother and aunt singing this to me. Does anyone know where I can find a recording or lyrics?

My Grandmother was born in 1906 NEW
by: Jennifer

I was born in 1963, her and pop pop had a small beach house and we would spend the summers with them. I can remember her singing blanket bay to me a lot of the nights, as I was laying in bed. Those are really, really fine memories of my Grandmother, Thank you so much for this thread, it made my day :).

Generational Lullaby

All aboard for blanket Bay

There’s a Ship that sails away
Off it sails at the end of each day
Sails away across the seas
To the the land of promise & dreams
Captain crews the little white ship
The sail is known as the Pillow Slip
Dreamtime is calling so all I say is
All aboard for Blanket Bay

All aboard for blanket Bay
Won’t come back till the break of day
All wrapped up in your little white sheet
Don’t forget those little bare fee.
Tuck up in your trundle bed
Sleep Ahoy little sleepy head
Bless mummy and daddy and sail away
All aboard for blanket Bay

Blanket bay NEW
by: Grandma Gina

My Mother sang this to me and I have shared it with my own children and 28 day care over the years. They now sing it to their children. But a little different version.

All aboard for blanket bay
won't be back til the break of day
wrap (her/him) up in his little white sheet
so they can't see (his/her) little bare feet
and we'll ship ahoy little sleepy head,
tuck (him/her) in (his/her) little bed
bless Mommy bless Daddy and sail away
all aboard for blanket bay

Makes me cry NEW
by: M Golden

My mother sang this to all of us six children, and then to all her grandchildren. When she passed, all of her children were with her. We all spontaneously sang this lullaby to her in her final breaths. It was a very bittersweet moment. I miss her whenever I think of this lullaby

Full lyrics to Blanket bay lullaby NEW
by: Jennifer Sorensen

No idea why I have recalled this lullaby so giercely theough the years but as a professional nanny I have sung it to my charges for the past couple decades. Now as a new mom I sing it to my son and it reminds me so mucj of my own mom who passed away almost 2 years ago. My voice cracks at the same places hers did... the nostalgia is overwhelming. I hope this brings your heart joy.

"All aboard for Blanket Bay
Won't be back 'til break of day.
Wrap him/her up in his/her little blue/pink sheet,
Til all you can see are his/her little pink feet.
Tuck him/her away in his/her trundle bed,
Ship ahoy little sleepy head.
Bless mommy, bless daddy and sail away,
All aboard for Blanket Bay."

Sail Away to Blanket Bay NEW
by: Anonymous

Sail away to blanket bay
Mr. Sandman is calling
Sail away, sail away
And return at break of day
With the dawn's early light
You'll be back in my arms.

I'm 72 yrs. sung to me by my grandmother, who
came to Massachusetts from New Brunswick to
raise her children.
