My mother used to sing this to me when I was young & I've asked her the lyrics other than the chorus, but we can't remember it since its been 30 years ago... I am a mother of children (under 3) :( I would like to pass it down them,

So my dad’s co-worker wasn’t the only one to let his mind wander! My father used to wind up my mobile and sing the lyrics provided by his friend in the early 70’s. Now that I have another baby grandchild, I started looking for the lyrics. I thought they were somewhat based on actual "official" but it turns out I was just gullible. If anyone recognizes any of this, please help provide the rest:

I am so super happy I found this thread ! My kids have a little music box from one of their mobiles that we recently found and they have been playing it singing the tune throughout the day today .. when my 7 yr old asks me "mom I love this whats the words ,I want to sing the song ".. And I couldn’t answer. All I knew was the first sentence and I knew there was more. I found another long traditional version when searched but it wasn’t the one I remember. Then I stumbled in here and wala! ❤️ I will be compiling my own version with all the beautiful versions here! Each unique and different . I just sang my daughter to sleep with the variety I read here and she is surly out! Thanks everyone . ❤️❤️ Usually we sing my little sunshine and I changed the end of that to I will love you always ( so it’s happy ) lol but with this one she was out way faster . 😂💗💗she is my stubborn 3 😂so that’s saying something

I have my own version that has changed over the years (mainly because I can’t remember the words!). I first sang it when my daughter was a little baby (she is now 13), and revisited it when my son came along 6 years ago.

Go to sleep my baby,
Close your big blue eyes,
Angels are watching,

The stars are shining bright,
The moon is high above you,
To take you through the night

(Then repeat the first verse)

I had a memory of my mum singing the original song and just filled in my own words when I couldn’t remember what they were!

I would sing these nonsensical words

I’m trying to find this. I *thought* it was Ann Murray on her kids’ cd (There’s a hippo in the bathtub) but it’s not on there so I’m still looking. The timeline is right, too; we played it for my cousin who was a baby in 1988.

I lost my mom last summer so I’d love to be able to play this for our new twins so they can have something ‘from her’.

My mother sang me a song kind of like this as a baby and I've asked her she doesn't remember it at all and I can't find anything really like it. It went like this.
Go to sleep, go to sleep

That's all I remember. I know there's more to it but no one knows what I'm talking about
