Does the moon mama love her star baby

by Cathy
(San Diego)

My mother sang it to me, she learned it from her mother, so that would put it somewhere in the 1800s. I absolutely loved this soft, lovely lullaby. The only line I know is, "Does the moon mama love her star baby just as you love me? Say, Mama, say." I'd love to have the whole thing! Can anyone help?

Way Out in the Buttercup Meadow
by: Chell

Way out in the buttercup meadow, a sheep was lying one day and close by her side in the clover, a dear little lamb was at play. Does the sheep mother love her bright lambkin just as you love me say momma say…does the sheep mother love her bright lambkin just as you love me say mamma say.
Way out in the old apple orchard, there are four baby birds in a nest. They say they belong to a Robin who wears a red rose on her breast. In all this wide world full of birdlings does she love her own birdlings the best. In all this wide world full of birdlings, does she love her own birdlings the best. Last night as I looked out my window, just before I repeated my prayers the moon and the stars shone so brightly, way out in the heavens so fair. Did God send those little star babies, ‘cause the moon was so lonely out there. Did God send those little star babies, ‘cause the moon was so lonely out there.

This is what my mom song to me. Seems familiar?
