Hush, my dear one, sleep serenely; Now, my lovely, slumber deep. Mother rocks you , humming lowly; Close your eyes, now got to sleep

by Donald Mee
(Langhorne, Pa)

The refrain ends with the words; I will hold you, close enfold you, Close your eyes, now got to sleep.

I played the bagpipes at the funeral of a four year old, in 1997 in Princeton,NJ. At the time my son was also four years old. I recently found the program for the servicel with the words of the Lullaby. I cried then and I cried tonight when
I read them again.

Is there a recording of the tune?

I love this one too! I sang it in choir in high school and 10 years later, I am singing it to my little ones before bed.

I don't know about a recording of this song offhand but lullaby lady Amy released a new CD called Angel Baby Lullabies for those who have lost a child and it includes a track - Angel Baby Lullaby which may be similar. There's information here at http://www.lullaby-link.com/angel-baby-lullabies.html or at http://angelbabylullabies.com/.
