lily of the valley

lily lily of the valley, won't you be my very best pally
.....oh be my lily oh be my lily and I'll be your forget me not

My Mom sang this when I was young and then to my kids. She recently passed away and this song came to my mind. I would really like to know what the lyrics were. I know the tune as well. No search has turned it up yet. If anybody knows this song or anything about it, we would sure love to know.

Lily of the Valley NEW
by: Patricia Anonymous

I named my daughter Lily and remember vaguely this song by tune and a few words. Never could find it in any search. Fast forward 19 years and I happened upon an old 1947 movie Mother Wore Tights and lo and behold: Lily Lily of the Valley. Come on Lily lets be pallies. You’re the sweetest flower in the pot, be my Lily oh be my Lily and I’ll be your Forget Me Not.

Lily of the Valley Chant

Lily, lily of the valley. Lily, Lily let's get pally. Left foot, right foot, One two three.

Repeat

As young girls in grade school we locked arms and sort of marched to the tune. We went forward to the lily part and then backward starting at Left foot.

We changed this song while dancing, walking, marching all around the schoolyard.

My dad just passed away and as we were planning the funeral arrangements I remembered he used to sing a song to me in the car - I never knew all the words or the name of the song just something about Up in Yonkers and Lilly Lilly of the valley - deary deary won't you be my paly.
This site was so helpful in bringing back the lines and memories I'm just trying to find the song on line but haven't had any luck!

My aunt and uncle had a player piano and this was one of the song scrolls for it. Me and my four sisters learned the lyrics and would sing it at get together with the chorus sung by my eldest sister in a high soprano voice with lots of vibrato. Good times.

My Grandparents' wind-up victrola
by: Jackie

Hi, I was enjoying the smell of our lily of the valley flowers in our garden today when I recalled that song which we played on an old wind-up victrola in my grandparents' front hall...but I couldn't remember the lyrics. Glad I found this website and maybe I'll check out the Grandma Wore Tights move. Thanks!

Lilly of the Valley
by: Ashley

This song, is from my favourite movie " Mother wore tights", Starring (you're right) Betty Grable and the song is lilly of the valley. They have uploaded the movie recently to youtube, but who knows how long that will last. All of these songs the in film were old Vaudeville hits, it was a Jazz one step. I hope you find it. Here's to shared memories.

lily, lily of the valley

I heard and saw this performed in a movie ages ago. Old black and white. It had two sisters who performed it but I can't for the life of me find the movie. The sisters I thought were either Grable or Roders. But looking them up, I haven't found it. I distinctly remember a swing and evetually the girls growing up and apart, they were vaudeville performers in the movie
