Way down in old Virginia, beneath the southern skies,
a little piccaninni was closing his sleepy eyes.
His mammy rocked him too and fro, while she crooned this tune sweet and low.
Go to sleep my piccaninni, go to sleep, close your eyes so shining bright.
Don't you weep my piccaninni don't you weep, kiss your mammy sweet goodnight.
But since those happy days, seems like all i do is roam,
but now i'm going back to my good old southern home,
and the song i'll sing until i die, is this piccaninni lullaby.
Go to sleep and sleep tight..... close your eyes.
