sweetest little baby

by rabekah
(blairsville,ga)

sweetest little baby, everybody knows, don't know what to call her but she's migthy like a rose, laying there a sleeping, in her little place, makes you think the angels peeping thru the lace....

my grandma used to sing this song to me growing up. in fact, when i was about to leave for germany with the military she sang it to me over the phone. I want so badly to sing it to her now that she is older and late in her life. I also want to sing it to my god-children.

Mighty Like a Rose - Effect for Man in Coma NEW
by: Anonymous

My mom sang it to me. I sang it to my uncle to give him peace when he was in a comma figuring that she had sung it to him when he was a boy. His very labored breathing calmed down significantly, and the hospital nurses commented on how it was having a major effect. He passed quietly that night.
Mighty like a rose.

Sweetest little baby. I know it by heart NEW
by: Anonymous

My Grandmother saang this to me every night! I know it by heart 🌸
Sweetest little (insert name) everybody knows
Don't know what to call her but shes mighty like a rosey
Looking at her nanny (mommy) with eyes so big & blue
Makes you think that heaven
Is coming close to you

When shes there sleeping
In her little place
I think I see the Angels
Peeping through the lace

When the night is dark
& the shadows creep
Then they'll come on tip toe
To kiss her in her sleep

Sweetest little (name)
Every body knows
Don't know what to call her but
She's mighty like a rosey
Looking at her nanny (mommy)
With eyes so big & blue
Makes you think that heaven
Is coming close to you 🌸

Sweetest Little Baby NEW
by: Cheryl

My mother sang it this way:

Sweetest little baby
Everybody knows
Don't know what to call her but she's mighty like a rose

(For blue eyes)
Looking at her mommy
With eyes a shining blue
Makes you think that heaven is coming close to you

(Or for brown eyes:)
Looking at her mommy
With eyes a shining brown
Makes you feel like heaven
Is coming all around

When she goes to sleeping in her little place
Think I see the angels
Peeking through the lace

When the night winds call (held)
And the shadows creep
Then they come on tiptoes (held)
And kiss her in her sleep

Sweetest little baby
Everybody knows
Don't know what to call her but she's mighty like a rose

Pretty Little Girl
by: Anonymous

Pretty little girl
Everybody knows
Don't know what to call her
But she's mighty like a rose.

Looking at her mommy
Eyes so shiny blue
Makes you think that heaven
Is looking up at you.

Laying there a sleeping
In her tiny bed
Think I hear the angels
coming 'round the bend.

When the night is falling,
and she's fast asleep
Then they'll come on tiptoes
to kiss her in her sleep.

That's how I remember it anyway....I'm 31 and ill never forget laying on my grandmothers lap while she ran her fingers through my hair and sang this song to me...i loved her so much and miss her so much!

Nanny' lullaby
by: Anonymous

My Nanny used to sing this lullaby to me and when I had my son she taught it to me again. It's now his favorite (and mine!).
Our version goes:
Sweetest baby Jeffrey
Everybody knows!
Don't know what to call it but you're mighty like a rose!
Lookin' at your Mama (or Nanny or Daddy for the second round)
With eyes so shining brown (or big and brown for the second round)
Makes you think that heaven is coming right down.
When the baby's sleepin', in his special place-
Think I see the angels peepin' through the lace-
And when the night has fallen,
When the baby sleeps-
That's when I'll come on tiptoe-
And kiss you in your sleep. (Give a soft kiss!)

Sweetest Little Baby

My mother also sang that song to me. The last sentence is different from yours, but the first sentence is the same.

The second sentence: With his cheeks so brown and his eyes so blue, you are mommy’s baby and mommy loves love.

I sang this song to my child and even to my grandchild. It makes me feel warm and cozy. Thanks for bringing back wonderful memories.

My Grandma and Mother also sang this lullaby to my brothers and I. The words and melody just come out of my mouth without thought. They did sing the version "looking at his Mammy with eyes so shining blue...makes you think that heaven is looking up at you"
I sang it yesterday to my Great niece then searched this site out to see if there were more verses. Very excited to learn of so many others with same memories and carrying them forward. Thankyou!

Congrats to G-Grandma!!
by: Amy Robbins-Wilson

This is a true Lullaby-Link - music that is sung across five generations. Thank you so much for sharing this thought. Enjoy your G-Grandbaby and perhaps, just perhaps, they will tear up as they sing this same song to their G-Grandbaby with the words "My Great-Grandma used to sing this to me". Giant e-hug and thank you again.

Warmly,
Amy

My dad sang this lullaby to me and to his grandchildren. I was the youngest child and by the time my children came, my dad had passed away. I sang it from memory to my babies and made up words to fit the parts I didn't know. I am going to be a grandmother soon and would love to have the words and music to this beautiful song.

I have been searching for the lyrics to this song for at least 15 years! My grandmother used to sing this song to my brothers and I when we were children. I now have children of my own and I only know the melody and the first few words so I sing what I know and make up the rest as a go along lol... But I can now sing them the real song!
