sweetest little baby

by rabekah
(blairsville,ga)

sweetest little baby, everybody knows, don't know what to call her but she's migthy like a rose, laying there a sleeping, in her little place, makes you think the angels peeping thru the lace....

my grandma used to sing this song to me growing up. in fact, when i was about to leave for germany with the military she sang it to me over the phone. I want so badly to sing it to her now that she is older and late in her life. I also want to sing it to my god-children.

Sweetest little baby

My Grandma and Mother also sang this lullaby to my brothers and I. The words and melody just come out of my mouth without thought. They did sing the version "looking at his Mammy with eyes so shining blue...makes you think that heaven is looking up at you"
I sang it yesterday to my Great niece then searched this site out to see if there were more verses. Very excited to learn of so many others with same memories and carrying them forward. Thankyou!

One of the Greatest Lullabye Songs...
by: Anonymous

My Father (now 83) sang this Song to my Sister and I from Infants till' 8 or so..and..is one of my most cherished memories. The Love and Comfort it brought is still very, very heartfelt. Using the words as my Father did and even filling in w/ some new ones..now 56 and a Father late in Life, I sing it proudly to my only Child, a Son now 8.
God Bless the Writer of this Song!!!

Congrats to G-Grandma!!
by: Amy Robbins-Wilson

This is a true Lullaby-Link - music that is sung across five generations. Thank you so much for sharing this thought. Enjoy your G-Grandbaby and perhaps, just perhaps, they will tear up as they sing this same song to their G-Grandbaby with the words "My Great-Grandma used to sing this to me". Giant e-hug and thank you again.

Warmly,
Amy

Love This Song So Much
by: Soon To Be G-Grandma

My mother used to sing this song too. I can hardly read it without tearing up. I sang it to my daughters when they were babies and now I will get a chance to sing it to my first great-grandchild, a little girl.

Mighty like a rose
by: Anonymous

My dad sang this lullaby to me and to his grandchildren. I was the youngest child and by the time my children came, my dad had passed away. I sang it from memory to my babies and made up words to fit the parts I didn't know. I am going to be a grandmother soon and would love to have the words and music to this beautiful song.

:) THANK YOU!!!
by: Anonymous

I have been searching for the lyrics to this song for at least 15 years! My grandmother used to sing this song to my brothers and I when we were children. I now have children of my own and I only know the melody and the first few words so I sing what I know and make up the rest as a go along lol... But I can now sing them the real song!

My mother used to sing that song to my daughters but I never knew all the words. Now that I know I can sing the song to my first grandchild who is coming into the world today.
