"Wake with the buttercup, come on get up, get up.........."

by Robert A. O'Donnell
(New York, N.Y.)

I am now 87 years old. When I was three, my Father, a professional musician, taught me this song. I do not recall all the words of it, but

"Wake with the buttercup, come on get up get up, here comes the sun; open your sleepy eyes look at the flaming skies, here comes the sun.

Da, da da da da da, Da da da da da da:
Not a shadow in your way this day is your day!

Da da da da da da; da da da da da da
Here comes the sun!!!

Wake with the Buttercups NEW
by: Dianne Droogh

In response to Joan: I have just stumbled upon this page that I left a comment on and saw that I had left out a line. I pulled out my handwritten copy that my father left me and this is the line you are looking for which I have put in capitals:

Wake with the singing birds
SHOUT OUT THOSE LUCKY WORDS
Here comes the sun

Wake with the ........
by: George

I remember this song, my mother would sing this to wake me for school. I hated the song then; however, I would give anything to hear her sing it just once more.

Here Comes the Sun?
by: I Remember!

I also remember this song as sung on the radio many years ago. I'm 76 and have forgotten some of the words, but have been able to add to what I know by Dianne Droogh's comment--unless she is the composer. Here goes:

Wake with the Buttercups,
Come on, get up, get up--
Here comes the sun!
Open your sleepy eyes,
Look at the flaming skies,
Night dreams are done.

Turn your back on the night,
Morning's cheery and bright;
Not a shadow in your way,
This day is your day.

Wake with the singing birds,
Shout out those happy words,
"Here comes the sun"!

Lovers go hand in hand,
This is the promised land
Day dreams are from.

Laugh, your troubles are over--
Half the battle is won.
Life is no gloomy place,
Light up your happy face.
Here comes the sun!

Tag line at end of song:
You're such a lucky pup,
Come on get up, get up--
Here comes the sun!

Wake With the Buttercup
by: Joan

I have tried to get all the words to this song, but the only one who comes close was posted last year witht the name by Dianne Moore Droogh. I'm assuming that it's the composer of the song. Whoever listed it left out two lines (in order to make it poetic, they're necessary see below), but it's mostly complete. I AM THANKFUL FOR THESE LYRICS.

These are some of the words as I remember them:

Not a shadow in your way,
This day is your day.
Wake with the singing birds,
doo doo doo doodoo doo (something to rhyme with birds)
Here comes the sun.

The Boswell Sisters

My father sang this song every morning to wake (and annoy) my brothers and I. It has such bittersweet memories as he passed a few years ago.

Wake with the buttercups, come on get up, get up...
by: Dianne Moore Droogh

My father passed away at 92, just this year, but I had him write these lyrics down. He would sing this song when I was growing up. I can still hear him sing it so I have an idea as to how the tune goes. I am 48 years old (the little after thought) This is what I'm writing from his hand writing:

The sun is rising out of bed
And in the east the sky is red
Get up, get up you sleepy head
So early in the morning
It's a shame to dream the hours away
When all the world is bright and gay
When nature calls to work or play
So early in the morning

Wake with the buttercups
Come on, get up - get up
Here comes the sun
Open your sleepy eyes - look at the flaming skies
Day dreams are done
Turn your back on the night
Morning's cheerful and bright
Not a shadow in your way
Wake with the singing birds
Here comes the sun
Lovers go hand in hand
This is the promised land
Day dreams are from
Laugh, your troubles are over
And half the battle is won
Life's no gloomy place
Light your happy face
Here comes the sun

Get song to wake the kids
by: Dick Johnson

My mother who would have been 96 woke me with song. Unfortunately, she couldn't carry a tune, a trait she passed on to me! She woke us every morning with this song. I did the same as my kids were growing up. I am happy and relieved to finally discover that the song actually exists and that others woke-up and enjoyed it in their youth too.
Her words were a little different.

Wake up you sleepy head,
Wake up, get out of bed.
Here comes the sun.
Open your sleepy eyes,
Look at the flaming skies.
Here comes the sun.

My mother also woke me with this song she would be 98 now. The words are similar but a little different. It was a very cheerful experience as she would open the curtains and sing, Wake with the buttercups come on get up , get up here comes the sun. Do you know who wrote it.
