Second verse NEW
by: Anonymous

Jack and Jill went up the wooden hill,
Tommy Tucker tucked away a pie,
Lights out in dreamland
The sandman is on his way,
Lights out in dreamland
It’s been such a lovely day.
The memories are still with me gladly I recall,
The stories old but still it’s told, when the shadow falls
Jack and Jill went up the wooden hill,
And now I think it’s time to say goodnight.

That’s the rest of it!

I’m confused
by: Anonymous

My grandfather use to sing this to me all the time and said he’s mom made it up the version I remember is different

When mama says it’s time for bed up the stairs we climb we always read a story book Once upon a Time Jack and Jill went up the Woodhill peter piper played a lullaby lights out in dreamland it’s been a lovely day lights out in dreamland Hassan Minnesota on his way

The memories are still with me
And then I forget I could always ask my grandfather for what the rest is but it’s odd that my mother thinks her grandmother made it up. And if so I mean cool

A childhood poem memory NEW
by: Anonymous

When Mummy says its time for bed
I makea face and shake my head
It seems to me oh what a shame
To think that she should spoil my game
I softly tip toe across the floor
And try to sneak out of the door
But mummy always shakes her head
And says quite stearnly, go to bed
Then I tip toe up the stairs
And then I wash and say my prayers
But when it comes to break of day
I see things in a different
For as I rub my sleepy head
I think, how nice it is in bed

Variations NEW
by: Dubris

Interesting that we all seem to know a slightly different version.

Mine included "When Daddy said"

Also Instead of Peter Piper I was sung "Tommy Tucker put away his pie"

I am 62 now, thanks for the memories.

When Mummy said its time for bed NEW
by: Ian Crowder, age 67

My parents are 94 and last night I was trying to recall and Mum sang it - couldn't remember the words. Not a real shortcut to childhood - clearly popular I'm my mother's family when she was a youngster in London and then Odiham before the war... And so the story goes from generation to generation!

When mommy says its time for bed
by: Sal

When mommy says its time for bed up the stairs we go. We used to take a story book, long long ago.....
Jack and Jill went up the wooden hill, Peter Piper played a lullaby. Red Riding Hood was in the Wood Puss was in the well, Little Bo-Peep was counting sheep when Humpty Dumpty fell. Jack and Jill went up the wooden hill Peter Piper played a lullaby.
Lights out in dreamland the sand mans on his way, lights out in dreamland we've had a lovely day. The memory is still with me, gladly I recall. The story's old but still its told when the shadows fall. Jack and Jill went up the wooden hill, and now its time to say goodnight, goodnight, goodnight.

Song lyrics
by: Angiecreff

When Mommy said it's time for bed, up the stairs we climb.
We always took a story book, Once Upon A Time.
Jack and Jill went up the wooden hill, Peter Piper played a lullaby.
Red Riding Hood was in the wood, puss was in the well, while Little Bo Peep was counting sheep, Humpty Dumpty fell.
Jack and Jill went up the wooden hill, Peter Piper put away his pipe.
Lights out in dreamland, the Sandman is on his way, lights out in dreamland, hasn't it been a lovely day.
The memory is still with me, gladly I recall. The story's old but still is told, when the shadows fall. Jack and Jill went up the wooden hill, now I think it's time to say goodnight....goodnight....good..night. xx
